Have heard of guys drilling holes along the tube and injecting gorilla gule around it.

Now there's an idea! Had a better look at the wings this afternoon, turns out there is NO ply wing root which I find pretty damned astonishing. But I'm not going to knock it because if I had to guess the amount of flights on this airplane my number would be well into 4 figures. Right now I'm thinking that I like Rick's idea and then double the balsa roots with 1/32 ply... If just balsa has held this long the ply should do just fine from here on.

Learned that one from my dietrich, they had a problem with the phonetic tube not being glued in. Just make sure that you put the wing tube into the phonetic while the GG drys!!!!!

huh... there's a dietrich extra sitting right beside this one in the trailer, something else to watch for.

interested in the gorilla way, please post the results if that's what you do.

Rick, how deep? whole length of tube?

The gorilla way.... Sounds like a good subtitle for Kung Fu Panda 4. Not sure how far you'd want to go if you didn't trust that your tune was well glued all the way, might be tough to keep the bit tracking close to the tube a long way in, but in this case I think 4-6" is going to be plenty. With nothing but a balsa root rib just about the only thing that's been keeping these wings together has to be the fact that the phenolics are well attached to the foam, I'm only concerned about the last few inches near the root.

I did not have to do it as my wing were gut jobs, I added spars and carbon tow top and bottom of both my wings right across the phonetic box in the wing. (but I still might)

If I were to do it I would drill a shallow hole just through the wing skin and use a needle to judge how deep to insert
the glue. And just the last half of the outboard side of tube.

I went out and bought the gorilla glue and the long drill bit so I could push glue along the length of the tube but in the end I didn't bother, as I said in my last post with only a balsa root rib the only thing that's been holding these wings together for hundreds of flights is the fact that the tube sleeve is well attached to the foam. In the end I doubled the root rib with 1/32 ply paying particular attention to get a good joint between the tube sleeve and the new doubler. Now with 6 flights after the repair, just as violent as I was flying before, and no sign of tube movement I think I've got it licked but I will be watching it closely. Any new movement will be obvious at the tube/doubler joint.
