    Pitot tube

Thought I'd make a separate post for this. I want to install a pitot tube in my F-15. Where have you guys been installing your pitot tubs? And how did you do it? I know Greg has his installed in the nose of his viper, and probably one of the better places for accuracy, but I know I'll friggin brake it off there... I got the BVM pitot tube mount, but damn it's big and ugly, so I don't think I'll use that.

    Re: Pitot tube

    Hi,

Not on a jet, but i have the pitot tube installed about 1" under the wing away from the prop wash on my PC-6...
Might be a good location for you as well... But again i'm not a jet flyer...

    Cheers

    Re: Pitot tube

Louis.. I was reading on a European thread that the boyz over there are installing it on the nose or anywhere along the outboard 1/2 of LE of the wing and one guy is suggesting for max accuracy for the pitot tube to extend 2" forward of the LE to prevent any disturbances as the air splits around the wing (similar to full-scale).

Again.. haven't tried it... just passing on what I read.

If I can find the link (was in German), I'll post it.

Louis i did not want to put it in the nose either for risk of bending it but I dont like the look of the fuse mounted one.I am going to try to be careful....☺New Viper ready to go for OVJ ....Come on spring!

Looks like that's the best place to install the pitot tube. Greg, how did you actually secure the tube in the nose? Can you take pictures of your install?

Also I see a hangar 9 spitfire box there, have you built it? Is it something you want to keep? LOL?

I drilled it out so it fits snug and that seems to be enough. If i bend it it should be easy enough to straighten or replace. The spitfire I just sold it was a electric on 10s with a rolls royce merlin sound system.I flew it quite often at stetsons this past summer.I was sad to sell it but something had to go when bitten by the jet bug
