For an affordable price there are some good ones out there Bill. They do have some hidden frame issues that if not correct or corrected can be the difference between a good car and a dangerous car. I would advise researching online forums and getting help from local clubs or owners that know the cars. They are 40 years old and............

Baited and Hooked,,,, hear it all the time Merv, it's a part of ownership. Just remember long before the TR6 the Brits did produce the Supermarine Spitfire and the North American Aviation P51 Mustang was originally conceived and built by North American Aviation (NAA) in response to design specifications issued directly to NAA by the British Purchasing Commission in need of a longer range Fighter Bomber.
In 1976 Automobiles were designed and produced with a seven year total life expectancy so to have a 40 year old car that We have put 200,000 two hundred thousand miles on with regular maintenance and repairs that can be done by most any gear head and has never left us stranded says something for British engineering eh.
Don't get Me wrong Merv Lucas electric and British steel and grease is a great conversation subject. If you know the product and how it was designed and operates there is NOTHING in this car that cannot be maintained and fixed with a standard set of tools and a willingness to get some grime under Your fingernails.
Just not My style to plug in a laptop and diagnose the component to be tweeked or more than not unplugged and replaced with a new plug in component.

Back when I was in the automotive trades we had two TR7's in the shop at the same time. One had a GM V6 and automatic transmission in it, the other a Mitsubishi 2.6Ltr 4 cyl and standard trans. I mentioned them to a British mechanic friend of mine and his comment was "Ya, every once and a while someone does that and puts a perfectly good mechanic out of work!"
The old British doctor I bought my Porsche from replaced it with a TR7. One of the reasons he gave me for selling the Porsche was that there was never anything to fix. He fired up the TR7 for me and shortly had screwdriver in hand happily tweaking the old SU's. Tinkering with your car is just an integral part of British motoring!
You are right though, any 40 year old car that there is enough left of to restore is special!

With Screwdriver and Spanner in hand I will stand in defense of Internal Combustion Model Airplanes.
