    DLE170 Testing

Mike (Flyinchase) picked up a DLE170 and sent it to me for some quick testing!!

Not many of these around but the ones we've seen run really, really good and tons of power and quite smooth. From what we've seen, not the power of the GP176/ZDZ180/MVVS175, but definitely will give the DA170 a run. Time will tell if we can get some good #'s

Just a hair over 8lbs, so third lightest next to the ZDZ180rv-j and DA170.

    Re: DLE170 Testing

Here are the different exhaust we'll use for the testing!!!

From left to right... stock chainsaw mufflers , Large ProFlow Canisters, Large Pro-RC Hype Canisters, RE3 pipes

The motor came with the stock exhaust (which I'll use as a baseline). Mike will be running the ProFlows, however thought we'd check the Hype cans (since they are lighter) and the RE3 pipes (since I love pipes )

    Re: DLE170 Testing

The flanges / exhaust ports on this DLE170 are absolutely MASSIVE!!! Dwarfs any other motor in this class. I scrambled around in my exhaust parts bin and found a set of KS flanges for a ZDZ210 ... perfect fit. Exact bolt hole spacing.

Also found a set of 28mm KS flex headers

    Re: DLE170 Testing

Mike needs a drop of 90mm. I also offset the headers for the 2.5-3deg right thrust.

Once they were fab'd up with Silver Solder / MAP gas, I cut the headers to 12" length, since Dave Sullivan says that the ProFlows run best at this length and seems to be pretty universal regardless of motor.

This will also allow me to do some headerlength testing with the RE3's, since the headerlength will likely be in the 13 - 14.5" length

    Re: DLE170 Testing

Tonight I'll get the DLE170 on the stand. Will also gather the various props. Hope to get a baseline on the mufflers and test the ProFlows and Hype cans this coming week. Will take a bit more time, but will get the RE3's tested next weekend.

It must be a pretty elaborate spreadsheet to keep track of all the goings-on in your shop!!

I wanna see how this turns out!

    I will subscribe.
I believe the 170 is a very good option for a first 40%'r. Especially for anyone coming up in the DLE family (55, 111, etc.).

Mike, what's it going in? I read the DLE 170 runs quite well.

Mike.. It's actually 3rd lightest of the pack, so awesome news there!! Massive ports.

I just noticed that there is a splitter plate in the middle of each port (splitter plate is vertical). I'll take some pics in a bit. any idea what that splitter plate does?? Never seen that before.
