    Re: My First Scratch build

Bottom left stab under vacuum. Wasn't going to spend $12US AND $70 SHIPPING!!!!! for a plastic quick lock, so I made my own for $11 bucks. Nor was I going to pay $5 per meter of vacuum bag. I just purchased 20 XXL Clear garbage bags from Wallymart for $6 bucks

    Re: My First Scratch build

Well things are turning out great. I'm very happy with the core build up product. It's called lancor sorric. It's not Honey comb. It just looks like it. Its seems a bit pricey.. but I have yet to compare the price to balsa. It is better than balsa in the way that it conforms to any curve whereas balsa can only go one way or the other.

Just an FYI for those of you using an oil vacuum pump.. the light smoke that comes from the pumps vent may seem docile, but in time will fill your garage with an oily mist and eventually coat everything in the shop with a thin layer of oil. Not good to breath in. Its best to connect a hose to the vent and run it outside.

No problem Joe I found a 20-foot length 3/4" at Home Depot(plumbing) for 12bucks, fits in the pump perfectly

    Re: My First Scratch build

I'm getting pretty good at the bagging with regards to a perfect seal.. though I still have to constantly check it and give it a pump once or twice. It's kinda nerve racking, so I decided to use a switch. I didn't want to go with the expensive electronic switches that you can only get from the US and pay a fortune in shipping + duties, taxes and waiting for a week or more...so I made my own for $5. That was the cost of the 15a 125v switch.

The syringe has a spring inside. When vacuum is at 8 bar the spring is compressed releasing the switch and turning off the pump. When/if it loses vac (5 bar)the spring pushes the plunger out which activates the switch starting the cycle again.
