It has probably been asked a thousand times on various forums but where is the best price available in Canada for a decent LiPo battery. And why is there such a huge difference in battery prices? Is there that much variation in battery configuration that some makes are 3X the price for a 4S 3200mAh pack? I am new to this hobby and everything seems priced reasonably but I am bewildered by the battery prices. It is almost like buying a printer... the printer is only $59 bucks but the cartridges are 80 bucks.

It all depends on what you want to do with the batteries. The higher the discharge rate the more expensive it will be, similarly the greater the voltage the more it'll cost.
If you're just a general sport flyer, and do not need every single ounce of power then almost any battery will do in the correct discharge rate.
Remember: If your motor draws 80 Amps, your battery selection should at the very least be able to deliver that amount of power. The C Ratings X Capacity will give you the discharge rate.
Hope this helps.

Rotorquest and Great Hobbies carry the Gens Ace brand, but only Rotorquest had the size and cell count I needed. Pricey buying batteries in Canada for sure. If you had an American address you can get better deals.

I've had really good luck with the Admiral Lipos at http://www.motionrc.com/.
Mind you, I haven't bought much of anything online since the Canadian dollar took a dump...prices of everything just went up 20%.
There are lots of reasons for the price discrepancy...sometimes you pay more for branding, C rating is a big factor (how fast the battery can discharge), internal resistance, cell matching, general quality (ie solder joints), etc.
Like anything else there is a sweet spot, and your application will help determine that. Some brands that are decent for the budget conscious are Admiral, Turnigy Nanotech, and Revolectrix.
You can also try http://www.buyrc.ca/. He's new, but prices are in CAD...batteries look to be decent.

I see that Skycraft in Burlington carries the Pulse brand which is practically the same as Gens Ace.
