    Fair is fair John
You can't show me your soldering rig without showing me the final solder joint.

That does sound fair... I wish I had remembered to take a picture of it. This after tinning the wire and just BEFORE soldering...

And this is a splice from another project.

Soldering tips are always welcome. I've never had one fail yet but that doesn't mean I'm an expert.

    Some foam for the battery.

    Battery box closed.

The relief cut on the port side for the gas tank.

    The gas tank in position.

Thread lock for the mounting bolts.

Engine installation (almost) complete - just have to run the gas and carb equalization lines. But that's another section.

The choke rod - not sure how I'm going to work that past the dummy radial.

I'd say your doing just fine there John, could tell by the shrink tube and lack of burnt wire insulation.

Now we have a little problem - the mixture needles are not easily accessible.

I might be able to put some guide tubes through the box... we'll have to see.

Hey John, I'm sure your joints will hold up just fine. For splicing like that with multistrand wire I've been pushing one into the other and then soldering them...rather than side by side or twisted around one another. Can't remember where I saw it but it is supposed to be stronger, and it tends to look a bit nicer under the heat shrink as well because you don't get much of a lump.

Thanks Cory - I usually tin the wires first and before I do that I dip them in flux. After I dip them in flux I could push them together first. I'm guessing you have to police up the strands of wire that go astray when you push them together?

    Yes, I think that's doable.

Ya John, you can tidy up the wires if you need to. I saw the method somewhere and didn't think it was a good idea until I tried it. I used to always twist them before soldering. But, it is surprisingly easy to push them together without making a mess.
