BTE Reaction 54 on the home stretch in the build phase

OMG - Just keep sanding eventually it will look like the jet you always wanted

Ok went and added over the wing Jet Intakes aka sorta of F-15 or Mig-ish

Far from finished but I can see the end of the build is near

Hope to glass the entire model

Been thinking of a Fantasy Luft colors of what-if WWII continued with next gen of jets

    Cheers
    Ken

Re: BTE Reaction 54 on the home stretch in the build phase

The jet intakes came out nicely once I got some wall spackling filler all blended in and sanded

The nose wheel hole in the bottom of fuse got a general cut-out to ensure I got the correct spot located - This way if I decide to upgrade to prolink struts etc I will have an easier time making adjustment with the landing gear.

Their is a access hatch on-top of the fuse - the book shows this is to access the fuel shut-off value etc. I used rare-earth magnets to secure the hatch but added a fake antenna to use as a quick handle to pull it up - Works great

Got myself EZ-cote from Great Hobbies and started the process of glassing the model

Today was step1 Laying on a 1st cote - used a foam-brush and thick coffee/style paper-cup Goes on nicely was able to cover one side then when done things were dry enough to do the other side. Nice!

So today coated Tail feathers, Ailerons and the flap

Looking great! I really like that model.
Is there a path for air to flow from the nose gear opening to the engine? I ask because my PST reaction has that flaw. Flying from grass allows anything kicked up by the nose gear to get sucked in the engine. I see bits of grass in the fuselage and on the FOD screen after a flight. I'm sure some grass has gone through my engine. I plan to put a mesh barrier just behind the nose gear to prevent this in the future.

Nope there is no way for grass to travel through the fuse with all the bulkheads required to build the model.

    Good day!

Well the progress is slow but good! - Not rushing the glass job has produced a very smooth fuselage - Had a bit of trouble getting the wings back on today

I think things shrank a tad when you add all that moisture back into the balsa. Just got the wings left to glass then I'll be ready for primer & paint.

Re: BTE Reaction 54 on the home stretch in the build phase

I ran out of fiberglass. Made an order with Thunderboltrc got 3/4 oz glass cloth

While I was waiting used Hysol to glue the Horizontal Stab and Vertical Stab onto the model then when dry - slotted/hinged and glued in the Elevator & Rudder.

I got the glass yesterday - So today I started on the top wing of the Reaction - I was able to do 1/2 the wing using a single piece of glass cloth. I love this Eze-Kote - so easy to use and the cloth simply pushed out flat with the use of a foam brush - No wrinkles - no mess - no smell

There is a really good place for all things fiberglass, carbon, etc. http://www.compositescanada.com/
    Worth checking out.
