Gauging Interest: Hot Dawg Championships - Bigger Better Funner!!

Years ago a bunch of us came up with a "Fun" type of contest. It's neither IMAC or Freestyle or XFC but a combination of each.

All pilots needed to submit music no longer than 3 minutes.
maneuvers choriographed to the music
Take off maneuvers and landing must be within the 3 minutes

Judging was based on:

• Degree of difficulty
• Choreography
• Timing
• Crowd Appeal (people brought their families)

The net result was a huge bunch of people practicing being creative. It was a HUGE Blast.

We had a PA system, candy drop for the kids in between sessions, fun fly type of activity (Spot Landing, limbo etc) in between the sessions. Drunken Cub routines by a hidden pilot, and letting one of the kids pretending to fly the plane.

The event consisted of 2 days of Fun Fly / Hot Dawg Compeition:
The premise is to provide friends / families / a varied event to participate in and enjoy for an entire weekend. It goes beyond just showing up at a location and flying. The activities are usually as follows:

Day 1:
8:30 am - 10:30 am Registration opens: Check MAAC - Sign Waivers etc.
Free flying 9:30 - 11:30
Fun Fly event: 11:30 - 12:30 (Example), most loops in 1 minute - Timer starts when plane wheels leaves the ground, plane climbs to altitude and starts doing loops. After the 1 minute mark is done, the plane in the air goes up to circuit height, allows the next plane to take off. While plane is
12:30 - 1:30: Open Flying
1:30 - 2:30 Another Fun Fly event of sorts, maybe "Spot Landing"
2:30 - 3:30: Hot Dawg Eliminations Day 1
3:30 - Sunset: Open flying, maybe one more fun fly type of event.

Day 2 will be similar, but the finals will be held after at 3:30 for the remaining finalists.

We had the likes of "Ted Curl" as guest announcers, over 8000 bucks in prizes.

I'm wondering if there is interest in this type of event.

I'm thinking we can hold 2 flight lines at 400 Club, and I could probably sell the idea to Al and other potential sponsors.

So what do you guys think?

You don't want my answer Joe but here goes anyway. It was crazy back then and a hell of allot of fun but not likely something you want to put beside a 400 series highway in 2016.

Did you find it entertaining? Which year did you attend, I believe we I ran it for 10 years ish... (BTW, I was the MC for most of it).. LOL

Definitely the first and then who knows from there, it's like Toledo, just a blurr but you knew it was fun.
Who ever thought you could have so much fun on a pile of garbage?

No restrictions what so ever. People used to bring several planes, one plane for the fun fly activities and free open flying, and one specially for the Hot Dawg portion.
We had Coke Cola come out one year with girls on trampolines screaming "Barqs has Bite".. Yup, girls on trampolines.. hahahah

Ya, it was originally held at Humber, a stinking pile of garbage covered over with a clay cap 8 feet thick, then 2 feet of topsoil.

People would be free to enter in any event they wanted, optional.

I like the fun fly type of event. Just as usual I hope it is on a weekend of! Every event IMAC or otherwise has been on the wrong weekend for me. Even the huckfest's. Every one!!!!

But yes I would be in for weekend as you say. Would be a lot of fun!
