I'd add that at 10 years old you could walk down the road carrying a 22 rifle to go shoot gophers and the neighbors would just wave as they drove by - No frantic calls to the police, screaming sirens and swat teams.....
When i went to school, they still taught gun safety in the class rooms. We all drove around with 2-3 rifles hanging in the back window, 44 laying on seat beside you.

LOL, probably didn't bother locking the pick up or even rolling up the window) when you parked either and why take the keys out - you might loose them.

looking back, being a kid in the 50's and a teen in the 60's was pretty 'cool' and you young pups missed some of the best years of the last century by being born during what I call the boring years of the century. We went to school in small country one room schools and then it was a big deal when all of a sudden we were being bussed to a 'real' school, we grew up on the farm, learned from an early age the value of working and contributing, not ever thinking that this was work and that we were hard done by compared to our city cousins, allowance was 25 cents and that would buy a coke and a plate of fries Saturday at the Kresge's lunch counter while mom shopped for groceries, having baby cats, calves, horses and puppies and seeing these being born on the farm (city kids and kids today would never understand), in summer we could disappear all day and no one worried, later in the 60's, hot cars with REAL horsepower, A+W drive ins, littering tickets when beer was tossed in the ditch when the red lights came on behind you, IP's, again, no one worried if we stayed out all night as long as we were home for chores in the morning, teen dances Friday night at the local community hall, hitchhike to Banff on a whim with $10 borrowed from mom in our pockets and no one worried, no cocaine, no fentanyl and all the other $hit that is out there now to screw people up for life, dating farm girls and helping them finish their chores so we could go on our date sooner, (burger, fries and milkshake) and cruise main street with the rest of the gang....I could go on and on, all I am saying is that you young guys missed out, we've never had 'fun' years like that since......
    YAWN!!!

I was born later 50's, really enjoyed a lot of what you said Ron....I remember the single room classes and yes going away all day and night but best be home to do the chores......or else!!

The good ole' days, wish I could do a re-run as they were far far superior to what we have nowadays!!

I don't think we grew up that far apart from each other Ron, thanks for the recall post.

That's one thing I miss drive in movies. Theirs still one running on pei open since the 50 or 60's. My cousin owns it. Every time I fly home no matter what's playing even if I saw it before we go. Our son has even been twice lol.
