Re: Xicoy Digital CG Machine / Weigh Scale

Change this file from .pdf to .xlsx

Just need to follow Trevor's method of establishing a datum (front of spinner), level the aircraft (long and Lat) then measure to MLG and Nose/Tail wheel...plug those numbers into the program and the weights and it will tell you your C of G location...just wont record like Trevor's slick unit...but you can print the excel report to keep for future reference!

One suggestion....weigh the aircraft with the batteries out and enter them on the amendment section on the third tab C of G

Once you enter a date it will auto add Amend 1...in the yellow block....then add the weigh and arm where you want to install the batteries and it will auto calculate once you enter weight arm and moment of the batteries....moment = weight x arm

There are three tabs on the bottom first tab enter in the green blocks the weights on the scales

second tab enter the wheel locations

third tab will auto calculate the total weight and C of G location in the yellow block

Suggest only using the green block to make entries unless you are proficient at excel...

****always RIGHT click on a block and select "Clear Contents" to remove entries

Trevor...please try this out with your known locations and weights ...I have not yet tried this on a model...

Remember to change the file extension to .xlsx once you down load to your desktop

Re: Xicoy Digital CG Machine / Weigh Scale

    Hi,

Here an excel system i made a few years ago...
And that is the only thing that i've been using since with great success, Brent Bullen also gave it go, i've also being doing friends plane.
Only requirement is a lap top with Excel, 3 scales and some measurement tools
Unfortunately i can't seem to share an Excel file, so if anyone would like a copy, feel free to send me a PM with your email..

    Cheers

Re: Xicoy Digital CG Machine / Weigh Scale

Hey Guys!! I hope by this weekend to pull my F104 back into the shop. I'll use the Xicoy unit and will make an attempt to try checking CG by hand. But I will also download your excel sheets and work through them - will be neat to compare results!!!

Thanks so much for all the time and effort put into this.

Done! I had to figure how to do it with Windows 10...
So, "simply" change the file extension to .xls

I see that you have a pretty nice W&B system, looks like something for the full scale, send me a PM with your email, i'd like to send you the system i've build for the company.

    Cheers

Re: Xicoy Digital CG Machine / Weigh Scale

Hey Trev! After reading the fun you were having with your CG Machine, but being a bit too far over here in the Ottawa area to "borrow" it, I decided to splurge and get one for myself. Ordered it from Dreamworks at $295 USD. They "massaged" the invoice and it ended up sailing across the border (via USPS/Canada Post) with no extra charges.

In a word, it is frickin' awesome. (Ok, two words.)

I now know that my Phoenix weighs 20.46 pounds dry (full air trap) and that my CG is right where it should be. Will be doing my other planes soon.

What a time saver, and peace of mind knowing that the CG is where is should be.

If anyone in the Ottawa area would like to use it, I'd be happy to visit and help out. Payment can be made with beer.

Very nice Jim. Great tool isn't it! I'm not to far from you, you could have come borrow mine.

Looks like you used the "tape" method to measure your gear distances? You found it worked alright?

Same goes for me, anyone in the area is welcome to either bring your plane over, or can borrow mine as well.

Yep. Used a nice big T square to lay out the tape and mark the lines on said tape. Then used a 1 meter metal ruler to do the measurements. Easy Peasy.
