I think part of the problem now is HOW they are "street racing". Back in the day We would organize our "street racing", gathering at a deserted stretch of pavement with a marked 1/4 mile, placing lookouts at access points and using headlight relays to warn of approaching police, this was before cell phones and even before CB radios, how old school am I eh. Today they seem to street race randomly between traffic lights and in populated areas. Don't be stupid and You wont have a problem. As for road racing We had local track days that are not available now due to insurance to both the provider and the participant and our outlaw road racing was done way out in the country. Not the safest of activities but remember it wasn't until the mid to late 60's that seat belts were even installed in Automobiles. My 64 Fargo firewood truck didn't have them.
As to "Whats under the Hood" I think the Motorsports of today's youth has gone the same way as our modeling hobby with the swing to electric power I see so many store bought very pretty foamy models and the only pride is in appearance, with the statement that wet fuel is too messy and to difficult to operate whereas with this beauty all I have to do is plug it in and away I go.

The shifter feels quite positive to me Brian. The suspension is presently stock as well but there is lots of mods available. The Boxster is a mid engine like the old 914, I haven't had a chance to take one for a spin but I understand they handle really well too.
I am totally envious of your roads! Out here all you can do is stand on the loud peddle and wait for a ticket. In fact the roads are so straight and flat I find this car very frustrating to drive. It's like owning a sled out here, you have to go to the mountains to enjoy it! Last time I had it out your way... Mara Lake Road... 7 AM Sunday morning... Ooo Ya!!
As for the young generation's lack of interest under the hood, part of the problem is cars are so high tech these days that even us old wrenches have lost interest in trying to do anything with them. And Fathers don't tinker in the driveway anymore like our Dads did so the kids aren't learning anything.
Now that I think about it, where did all the speed shops go? There used to be one on every corner.

Actually that was right in Vernon, I thought you might know the car but it may have been from out of town. We were there picking up a parts car to use to get my daughter's Jetta back on the road. We bought a couple props from Lester's and had a look at his new field while in the area too.

Damn Merv, I have to pay more attention to what I read. Looking again I recognize where the car was sitting across the road from My favorite Beer Store, but have never seen the car before. I am hoping to see a few local cars on the 22nd at the British Car "Rally in the Valley" in Peachland. Next time You are here Merv give a shout I live just six minutes away from Lester's Store and if You would have mentioned My name He would have called Me and let Me know You were in the store. I am working with Lester on His new field and at the store every other day and out at the field on alternate evenings of Our roadster rides around Otter Lake area. Life is good here with this HOT dry weather We have, My lawn is brown and not needing any mowing so I can enjoy the car and the airplanes a lot. Today I am loading the truck with a 110 Rascal and a Gee Bee for the Logan Lake "High Country Flyers" Big Bird event on Saturday, just a day trip for Me this year and will be back for flying at Lester's on Sunday.

The TR looks awsum Brian. If we were closer we could trade for a day and head out together. That would be cool!
