I'm going to wait till I try it on Tuesday now Ed, I think these guys are on to something!! Specially the gaskets being installed in the wrong order. Makes so much sense to what has been going on with the motor.
This motor has been a pig since day one, even stalled on me at maidenfest last year. l hopefully all these hints get me somewhere!

Rick and I spent several hours trying to get this motor to run correctly last Sunday. What was frustrating is it never got remotely hot, I could put my hand on the cylinder even after it had run for 5 minutes. We looked for anything we could find at the field, kind of hard working on the grass on a towel.
I've worked on engines all my life, and never encountered one so mulish. I can see that the gasket on the wrong side of the diaphragm would disrupt everything! Its not something I thought of at the time. Caribou

Awesome Rick!!!... If the gasket was under the diaphragm, then i guarantee you that the issue has been found... 110% guarantee. If the gasket is moved to the top side of the diaphragm it acts like a standoff for the cover plate and the cover plate no longer pushes on the diaphragm which is unseating the poppet and causing the richness and leaking fuel.
