    Plane climbs over half throttle?

A few days ago I was at the field flying a plane and when I pass mid throttle the plane wants to climb. If I do a knife edge I need to apply elevator to keep it tracking straight. When I am flying invert at a 45 degree angle upwards the nose will drop. I believe this tells me I am nose heavy. Do I need to add some downward thrust to the engine or is the problem to do with my CG? Maybe both.

Test your thrust first before playing with balance.

    Here's a simple test:
    1) Fly at full throttle, use the trims to fly hands off level
    2) Chop throttle abruptly and see if the plane "Baloons" or "Dives"

If it dives, you have to add some downthrust
If it baloons, you'll have to remove some downthrust

The plane should neither drop or baloon, it should fly straight and level for a bit then slowly arc down as airspeed drops.

After the thrust is set, then you can start working on the balance.

Thanks Joe. I will give this test a try my next time out.

Also- Is this a new plane or a repaired plane? Sometime plane repairs are done incorrectly and will affect the wing incidence and/ or tail incidence (as well as thrust incidence depending on what was repaired)

If its a new plane build from a kit or ARF- that should be OK. But if its been repaaired you should check your incidences.

I added a washer to the top standoffs and that solved the problem. Now I can play with the CG.

    Thanks

Oh Ed! you know you cant trust any information you get at the field. Everybody knows you get the best answers from strangers on the internet!!! Just like the guys on the internet that said you can charge your Iphone 6 by putting it in the microwave and running it at full blast for 10 minutes!!

You did. Now if someone experiences this same issue they will have a solution. Some times the internet is right...
