After a few PM's to Dave (NDW) I decided to buy a Cameo three. Glad I did. Deafinitely addictive. Dave was right!
But a few questions about it to the members that have one. How long do the blades last? I bought it from a Michaels and they no longer carry it but have some blades in stock, not sure if I should get a few more, I have one spare.
What setting do you use to cut monokote? And is a mat needed.
Thanks. Rick.
P.S. Why does this site seem so dead? Very few new posts.

Rick,
Great job., looks amazing. No real time on blade life but you will know when the blade gets dull, the smaller details will get pulled and it won’t seem right. I get my vinyl in Missisauga at a place called Mississauga sign and supply. Right beside great hobbies warehouse. Prices are good, about the same as amazon. I buy the extra sharpe blades from amazon for a buck or 2 more than regular blade. It has the metallic blue top. Next month this store will start carrying the air release vinyl the shop keeper told me. If you stop in take some pictures of your projects cut with vinyl. She really likes to see them.

Thanks Dave for the lead on better blades. I have yet to wear one out, I do get some pulling on small stuff but I think it is more of a problem of my settings. I'm still guessing on how much pressure to put on the blade in the settings. Some of the stuff I'm trying to cut is tiny just to see what it can do.
Vinyl should not be a problem for me to get locally. My ex-boss and his son, my ex-apprentice whom I still have good contact with will give me their scrap vinyl from their vinyl bizz, they now wrap cars, buses and police cars. They work with most of the car dealers locally. They also do most of the signage up here in the Owen Sound area. All they have ever charged me was a Tim Hortons hot chocolate. They only use air release vinyl. What they throw out could cover four 35% planes! And they use some wild colours!
Scott, thanks for the vid on cutting monokote. I never thought of that, using a piece of vinyl as a backing mat.

Congrats, My wife uses this machine quite often for her business.
Use a mat / cutting mat for sure, also when making smaller designs slow down the speed and it will help prevent the blade pulling up the vinyl.
Another source for Vinyl is the Craft Shack in Timmins Ontario. they ship for free if you order a certain amount, and have all different types of vinyl, etc. I also like to make up some fun t shirts for the summer, see pic and have fun!

i usually import memes from google into the silhouette software, then edit / resize it to suit what i am doing with it. It is a bit hit and miss on what turns out good transferring things from the net. My wife is pretty much the expert in that dept. The vinyl is a special iron on type. you can use a house hold iron, we have a dedicated press type that selects the heat and timing based on the material your sticking the vinyl to.
There are a ton of tips and videos, and help groups online as well.

Rick,
Congrats on the Silhouette Cameo V3 purchase.
I had the 2 and convinced my wife to get me the 3 last Christmas but I haven't even used it yet. I have a 3 year old iPOD still sitting here to. LOL
Scott and Dave are Masters of this product. Thanks again for the video Scott.
Rick those two graphics you have done so far are great.
Anyways my point of potentially hijacking this thread is maybe we could start a Silhouette Cameo Graphics Library here on RC Canucks and maybe increase the traffic here because ya this site is stagnant. Might pickup now that flying weather gone.
We could either use this thread as the Repository/Library or start a complete new thread where everyone can post the graphics they have already created and any new ones so we all don't have to try and reinvent the wheel. LOL
Thoughts?
Regards,
Jim
