    Colour coding transmitter switches

    Getting old sucks!!

    I'm finding on some of my airplanes that I don't often fly, I can't remember what switch does what. For example, what switch for landing gear or what switch for the auto start on my EME 60.

    I read on another site that someone had painted his toggle switch handles different colours, but I wanted a alternate solution to painting the metal handles.

    I also thought that this colour coding technique would help while Maidening a new aircraft. You could yell to the spotter, "Move the GREEN switch UP!".

    So while wandering through Home Depot I found some Vinyl Screw tip covers ( $.26 each Part number 3902).

    They had tiny red ones that fit the small switches handles (D & E on the DX18) and the black ones that fit the other switch handles. The white covers were to large for my switch handles.

    I also found on line some coloured Vinyl toggle switch covers for $1.77 each at AIRCRAFT SPRUCE. Here are there part numbers.

    11-00817 GREEN TOGGLE SWITCH COVER
    11-00819 BLUE TOGGLE SWITCH COVER
    11-01698 YELLOW TOGGLE SWITCH COVER
    11-00816 WHITE TOGGLE SWITCH COVER
    11-00815 RED TOGGLE SWITCH COVER
    11-02823 BLACK TOGGLE SWITCH COVER

    Unfortunately I could not get enough colours so I purchased some cheap Walmart Nail Polish for $1.97 ( you should have been there to see the looks the cashier gave me!!!) to paint over the vinyl covers.

    If you pursue this concept:-

    WAIT 24 HOURS to let the Nail Polish dry. The oils in the vinyl compound hinder the drying time.

    If you use the AIRCRAFT SPRUCE covers, you will need to add a drop of glue at the tip of the handle so they won't fall off. The small and medium covers from Home depot fit very snugly and don't need any glue.

    For me, I use the colours that have a meaning to me,

    RED = IGNITION KILL (Danger)

    YELLOW = ENGINE START (Caution)

    GREEN = GEAR DOWN (Grass Green)

    Brian..
    I've always just used some different color fuel tubing. Like my yellow tygone on ignition kill switch, blue on flight mode. . etc
    Super low tech and whatever floats your boat.
    ps after reading through your post more thoroughly I realized you want more colour options. .got it

    A method I use with the DX-18 is to set up reminders in the Pre-flight Checklist function.
    So my list will be something like this

    - Switch H - Idle Up
    - Aux trim - Port Engine
    - Switch B - Crow
    - R Knob - Steering trim

    Re: Colour coding transmitter switches

    I use coloured heat shrink tubing and coloured fuel tubing as well.

    The fuel tubing helps because it has a different feel than ones with Heat-shrink. And sometimes "feel" is good when you cant take your eyes of the plane(heli)

    You could also use your WARNING section to send a noise / and or a vibration so that when you start up the transmitter it makes you move the switch to the proper location before you can send a "Bind" to the receiver.

    Re: Colour coding transmitter switches

    Well guys! i'm not a member of my local club however encountered some flight with them. From that point i likewise checked that reason silicone fuel tubing in different bright colors can be a smart idea, which can identify for your flying and exchange easily with your switches.
