It's actually kind of humorous...bought the engine used, ignition was DOA. Bought the RCExtremePower ignition, not because I've had an issue with DA ignitions but because he has a good rep and I can measure timing with it. This spring the Walbro carb spit the high speed needle in flight. Ordered one through my small engine guy but there was a huge lead time so I grabbed this dirt cheap carb from HobbyKing as a temporary measure. There were a bunch of good reviews on various forums regarding this carb on DA50s specifically. Got the carb and the engine ran better than ever, in fact I always had an issue that certain prolonged attitudes would cause it to load up but with the clone carb it's gone. Needless to say, I never put the Walbro back on.

All that said, I don't think the HobbyKing carb is better than the Walbro, it just has a different diaphragm spring or something is slightly different that makes it work well in my install. If I were to buy another one today it could be complete garbage. It does make for good banter though when I complain that I had to get a Chinese ignition and carb to get my DA to run well...all in good fun!

I'm always shopping for the best deal so as to keep my hobby as cheap as possible, while still endeavouring to keep the frustration factor to a minimum. For example, I just bought a cache of servo extensions for my new 1/3 scale World Models Super Cub, from my local hobby shop . 28 inch extensions cost me 9.99 each. No sooner did I get them home than I get an Email from Valley View in Washington ,, 28- 36 in heavy duty , twisted extensions for 2.00 bucks a piece, so I ordered a bunch fro Tom. Even figuring the dollar difference plus shipping, I'm going to save enough cash for at least several double wiskeys, at the bare minimum! You just never no when or where the deals are going to pop up .

    Very true!

Don't know how many of these projects you normally do but making my own extensions was a game changer for me...not just in cost but the ability to make any size extension I need in a whim. Thunderbolt has everything you need for a minimal investment. Just a thought!

    Sorry.
    I can’t wait that long.

Is it possible that having the HK carb on the DA, is like a foundry reunion?

I'm going to look into that Cory. I get a real kick out of fabricating anything I can and also I enjoy repurposing old junk into useable items again . So , do you have a special tool or crimper to install the ends on your bulk wire ?
