The 14MZ did suffer poor battery life but I found it much better using genuine Futaba batteries compared to the inexpensive video camera clones. You could also help extend the life by minimizing display use, using lower brightness, short delay for screen power off. For several years I cycled 2 Futaba batteries and never had to charge during the day if I started with both full.
It is still a great radio although missing telemetry it has great programming capability and convenience with a solid 2.4 GHz signal.

I put the Seacraft tray on my 14MZ and added a 5000 Mah lipo. No battery issues here.

I never had an issue with my 14MZ. Could get a solid 6-8 flights with it. Easily an evening of programming. What more do you need? Awesome radio. The telem was nice on the 18MZ though
Jim actually never even turned on 3 of the 4 he owned. And the 1 that he racked up time on was left on by accident while he watched TV on the couch.

if some one wanted to compare prices for transmitters and rx to think about converting is there a easy way ?
Futaba is expensive but top Quality i have 2 new 7014 on the shelf they were 240? ish i think maybe more from tower
7008 from hobby hobby like 200 $
