Your 1st RC Plane / Where is it now?

Just thought it would be nice to know what was your 1st RC Plane?

Mine was a Hobbico NexStar. It went through a few changes over the years. Converted it to a tail dragger and removed the dihedral . Flew great till a radio malfunction put her to death. Still miss the old bird....need to get another one.

I think everyone should have a trainer in the stable no matter what skill level you are at. Just great fun to go back and fly what you started with.

    Re: Your 1st RC Plane

I started with an Parkzone UM Trojan flying in the park. Not the right way to do it, but I went straight from that to the Parkzone Extra 300. From there I went on to a 3DHS Edge...and all the way up to a 35cc Redwing Slick, all in my first season flying! I've never had any instruction and have only written off one airframe so far...and that was some silly low level pseudo 3D flying. I don't recommend this path to anyone though...I recognize how much easier it would have been to start with a proper trainer and with some instruction...it's only speculation, but I suspect I would be a better pilot at this point if I had done things that way.

I do tend to agree, it's nice to have one plane that's a little more relaxing to fly and durable for things such as touch and go landings. Would be nice to have something like a Cub in the stable...I do miss the Flyzone Beaver I had for a short while.

I still have my Great Planes Cub with clipped wings and a Sig Rascal for my relaxed flying moments, but still hard not to think about the old NexStar and how proud I was to own one.

    Re: Your 1st RC Plane

My first plane was a Top-Flite Headmaster, three channel, tricycle gear. Lasted me through my training in 1970 and once I got my wings I got cocky and lost my airplane.

Plane number 2 was a Goldberg Skylane 62. Beautiful flying plane, and I still have it hanging in my workshop. Old girl is 44 years old and I would have no problem taking her out to the field again anytime. Its a Classic.

    Regards,

Re: Your 1st RC Plane / Where is it now?

Waaaaaaaay back in the day, I had a Cox 2 Channel Cessna Skylane, I guess this was my first RC plane, equipped with a Cox Sanwa 27mhz 2 channel radio. Flew ok, was difficult to fly, specially with no instructor and just having to "wing it" using lessons learned from flying control line planes. Then from there went to a 3 channel "Pilot Junior 100" this is the original company named Pilot from Japan.

But I guess, my absolutely real RC plane was when I moved to Toronto from Montreal, I went to Unionville and bought a Unionville Hobbies Club Cricket with a semi symetrical wing. Joined a club and was instructed by Barry Collingwood. That Unionville Cricket flew in every weather condition all year, until I got the Sig Cougar which I built in a week. The rest is histroy.

My first plane was an eflite apprentice fall of 2009 . Good choice for beginners. Sold it spring 2010 to a father son duo and not sure what happened after that lol. One summer later into 30cc gas two summers later 60cc three summers later 100cc. And no 40% lol draw the line at 100cc

Re: Your 1st RC Plane / Where is it now?

Way back in '79 my first plane was a SIG Kadet with lots of dihedral and no ailerons....3 channel fun at its finest!

Had an Enya 2 stroke for power and a Futaba AM 6 channel radio to boot.

Learned a lot with that aircraft, especially with regard to not letting the plane get 'to far' away.........result of that lesson was a 2 1/2 hour search for the 'lost' aircraft. Thankfully my wife found it and it only had minor damage (holes poked in the monokote) that was easily repairable.

First plane was a SkyWard 40 with Webra61 on the front. Got a full season out of it and got my wings. Did a spectacular spinner dip at the end of the season onto the paved runway and everything was a goner, even that sweet motor.
