Hey Trevor, are you still running a Cortex in one of your birds? I think you're best qualified here to do a comparison between the iGyro 3e and Cortex (since you don't have anything else to do...lol). If the result is that the iGyro 3e is every bit as good or better than the Cortex, that would be pretty significant considering the price difference. It's not like Powerbox is a cheap Chinese knock off company either, I would think the hardware is of similar quality to the Cortex.

LOL!! I have been flying my CompARF Tucano with the big iGyro SRS (with GPS) for a full season but it's really used just to smooth out the flight... the Tucano doesn't really have any bad habits so the Gyro is a bit of a waste.

I have about 20 flights on the Cortex in my 64" Extreme Flight MXS. Learned a ton on setup and have recently started playing with "latching" and changing the sensitivity via the computer for each surface. These 20 flights have been pure joy... can't believe how much of a training tool it is.

I have another Cortex in my 35% Pilot Yak55 / GP123, but it is not set-up yet - excited to try that in the spring!

I will soon be setting up an iGyro 3e in my 61cc 3DHS Yak55 and I have another for my Thrust Vectoring Avanti S Jet.

So.... still pretty premature to start comparing. But I have no doubt the iGyro 3e will be every bit as good as the Cortex.

Our Cortex expert is John Craven who has been flying them for a full season, but he's not on here yet I think he was getting an iGyro 3e also to compare for 2015!!

Appears to be just as simple as the Cortex. I need to stay out of this thread...starting to get buyer's remorse!
Thanks for the link Cory, just trying to understand the gain thing using the rotary switch on my TX. I do have a 3 position switch for the settings funtion on modes.

    Pete

PS: Also no matter what system I end up with mounting it would be at the CG point??

Pete - you can mount it anywhere in the fuse. The cortex and iGyro shows you in the instructions the orientation you need to mount it in but doesn't have to be on or near the CG.

Hey Pete, all I've done for my Cortex is use a 3 position switch. One end is rate mode, the other is hold mode and the middle is off. You adjust your gains by changing the "servo" travel or end points for that channel in your radio. You could do the same thing with the rotary switch if you wanted to make in flight adjustments but once you figure out the right setting for the gains I don't think you'll ever change it again.

If you end up getting one you will quickly realize how simple it is...and it sounds like the iGyro 3e isn't any more complex.

    Re: Gyros 4 AirPlanes

On RCGROUPS.com there is a great forum on the CORTEX GYRO. it's called Demon Aero Cortex Gyro! It's 114 pages.

But if you go to another discussion on RCGROUPS.com called Bavarian Cortex how to videos, setup, and important info you will quickly get to the important information needed. Some very good videos and it is only 3 pages long.

I am installing one in my 38% CARF Sukohi SU-31 and I'll post on this site what I have done to compensate for using 2 aerilons per wing.

Sorry but I think that is two steps backwards, I’m thinking either the iGyro 3e or the Cortex to be installed in my airframe. More research and a decision will be made, need it in place by May.

Sorry...just thought it was cool! For what it's worth, if I was buying over again, at half the cost I'd be giving the iGyro a whirl.
