I've got the EME 35 in a 76" Redwing Slick 540. I've only got about 4 liters through it and I'm a newb at gassers. I have run it on both the stock muffler and a Pro-RC canister. I've also run it on a 20x6 Falcon Beechwood prop and a 20x7 Falcon Carbon prop. I put a Bowman ring in right off the hop which made a huge difference in ring gap. With every combination of prop and exhaust it will spin in the low 7000s without much tuning, top end power is no issue at all.

So far I'm really liking it. It starts very well. I had problems with a slow and inconsistent return to idle with the canister that I was able to get rid of on the stock muffler. But, with the stock muffler the mid range burble is much worse and happens right in the range needed for high alpha flying and hovering. I haven't been able to tune it out at all, mind you it is a fresh engine still.

Because I'm so new to flying and particularly 3D flying I've found the burble a bit frustrating, although I don't think it would be much of a problem for an experienced pilot or non-3D flying. My DX7 didn't have throttle curve so I recently picked up a DX9, I think throttle curve is going to help quite a bit.

I've been contemplating buying the Walbro carb that EME is putting on it now and Lorne's wrap around Pitts muffler. My current dilemma is that the DA-35 reviews are saying there is no mid range burble and with the cost of a carb and another exhaust in combination with the used value of my engine it wouldn't cost a ton to get a DA. I don't have any issue with the starting/running/top end of the EME but I feel that if I could get rid of my midrange issue it would improve my flying/confidence significantly.

That said, I'm looking forward to flying it with my new radio and trying some more tuning before I commit to anything. I'll be following this thread closely!

    Cory,

Here is a video of Andy and his EME 35. Bowman ring and a Pitts muffler. Falcon 20x7 carbon prop. Walbro card. 3rd flight.

Very cool Trev. Cant wait to see how they stack up. Chases EME35 has been flawless all summer running on the eme can. I have a new ProRc Hype carbon Prop if you need more to test....lol

    Thanks

Sounds great in the video. I forgot that I've also fine tuned the timing since I last ran it. I definitely need to get a bit more time with mine before I worry about either changing parts or changing it. Like I said, I may have some complaints with it, but I still think it's a great engine...probably the best of the Chinese engines and yet one of the least expensive. I certainly didn't see anything concerning in terms of quality when I had mine apart.

Looking forward to Trevor's comparison. The thing that really strikes me about the DA is the number of reviews saying it has no burble...although admittedly the burble is more of a problem for me mentally than it is in terms of the way the plane flies.

Good to hear! I need the confidence...I fly that plane like it's made of glass, just because it is my largest and most complicated. If I could fly without wondering if it was running well it would make a big difference.

For someone that has gone from an EME 35 to the DA, how similar is the mounting pattern?

Where is everyone sourcing the little DA engines from? I've never seen them in stock at AMR, Thunderbolt or Great Hobbies...just the larger stuff. I guess if I do get one, I'm going to wish I bought it months ago before the dollar took a crap.

Cory.. i'm sure Jeff at Thunderbolt Rc could get a DA in if you needed one.

I bought a 83" Extreme Flight MSX and got the combo pack with the DA35. Last week when I called DA they didn't have any and were waiting on a production run.

Woukdn't you know it.. I was quoted the famous "6 weeks", LMAO. No lie!!

Cory, mounting pattern is the same as EME however, the bolt prop pattern is different. Not sure what DA was thinking there.

Like Trevor said, Jeff can fix you up or order straight from DA. You will appreciate it!

Hey Trevor, did you have the plane shipped into Canada or the US? Their 74" Laser has really got my attention and you never know when I might bin my Redwing Slick...but there's no way I can do it if they'll only ship UPS into Canada. Made that mistake once!

It is being shipped to my US dropbox in Lewiston NY. Should arrive on Tuesday according to the tracking. It's only 30min to pop down and import it in. The $$ saved in shipping to the US vs Canada pays for a good chunk of the taxes when I bring it back across the border.

That reminds me... need to apply for the family for Nexus this week.

The EME looks nice, I'm looking forward to the comparison! All this engine testing sounds like fun!
