Re: Eric Rís SkyMaster F14 - Loaded to the Hilt!!!

So after doing 2 of these F14ís and probably 10 other Skymasters, my learning is if you want a reliable leak free air setup, every air cylinder needs to be serviced (internal orings), Festo tubing installed and all nipples sealed with Hysol. If you do this, itíll hold air for a long time. Skip this step and youíll be chasing slow leaks forever.

Swingwing structure and main gear removed - now I can access all the gear door pistons for servicing and can fully tear down and rebuild gear.

These nipples are just screwed into the Skymaster cylinders with a course thread. 80% of them will have slow micro leaks. Add that up over 20 cylinders on a jet like this and Iíve seen pressure telemetry show 2-3 psi/minute air loss. Unacceptable. Threads need to be sealed

Not decided yet on the turbines....Leaning towards 160ís or possibly as high as 190ís....obviously over-kill but still looking at options 🙂

Unlimited vertical, single engine performance, ordinance carrying, grass field performance....lots of factors

So I have about a week’s worth of work now to pull ALL the air cylinders.

    Install Festo line
    Hysol nipples and airline
    Lube up cylinder internals/orings

Love your F-14 builds! I’ll be watching this one closely. Beautiful plane Eric, hope to see it next season!
