    Frewing Stock Avanti Repaint.

Just finished putting a US Navy paint scheme on my Avanti. Copied from on done in the US. Graphics by Callie.

Painting foam is not fun but as a fellow modeller suggests you use the 20/20 rule. Looks good from 20 feet and 20 mph. Ha.

Looks great Brian. What paint did you use and did you have to prep the foam in any way?

    Hey Sean,

I put 4-5 coats of EZE KOTE and lightly wet sanded in between each coat. Then sprayed with Rust-oleum 2x ultra cover primer followed by the Rust-oleum paint colours. You have to wait about 72 hours between coats to prevent wrinkling. The paint instructions say 48 hours but its very hard to do light coats with this paint, so I waited longer.

I wouldn't recommend using this method as the paint never did adhere to the foam properly and It peeled the paint off under the masking tape.

I vowed I would never repaint another foamy. Time will tell. I would probably go to a drywall primer followed by Latex colours from Home Depot on my next repaint.

I flew it the other day and didn't notice any change in the performance with the weight gain.

    Cheers Brian

Thanks Brian! Looks cool. I know what you mean about tough to mask. I painted a small UMX habu a few years ago to match my BVM Bandit and the toughest part was masking it. I ended up using post it notes because the tack on them was low enough to not lift the paint off the foam. Was still tedious.
