    AR Smoothflite RRS

Was gonna pick up another Mercury but read a few neat reviews about this unit.

Some cool new features that it has (on paper) so decided to give it a try.

3 options to turn this on...

    Base - pin and flag
    +$30 - magnetic switch
    +$35 - key fob

Got the key fob. I will lose it. Bad decision. Will order the magnetic switch

    Re: AR Smoothflite RRS

Features that intrigued me to buy one...

    * no need for GPS for gyro gain adjust... automatically adjusts gain in a different way
    * all ports can be set for gyro output
    * 15 point servo matching for things like 2 aileron servos
    * colour touch screen
    * telemetry

Will see. May be just hype. To me the Mercury is the gold standard but it too has a few drawbacks

OK so its Power Distribution Panel with a built in gyro that doesn't need a GPS?

    Must be a JET thing!

    Re: AR Smoothflite RRS

Going in my 104” AJ ARS. Flew it last year with a Mercury. Eager to see how this performs

Got the ARS base setup done last night. A few pros and cons so far...

    Cons
    * there’s no selectable orientation for it like Jeti Assist, Mercury, iGyro, Aura, Cortex. It needs to be installed front-back, not sideways
    * when setting up the servo subtrim and endpoints, each push of the button is a course movement - wish the movements were more fine like the Powerbox
    * it would not recognize a Jeti REX 10 receiver but would recognize the standard recievers (non-REX) no problem. So currently have 2 R3’s connected to it. Might be me. Need to look into that soon.

    Pros
    * love the colour touch screen and so far much easier logic to navigate and program than a Mercury
    * awesome 15-point servo matching. Set subtrim and endpoints like a Mercury but then finetune with 15 point matcher. Very impressive
    * assigning your Tx channels to ports is super easy... all graphical. Love the layout.

Will get into the Gyro setup tonight

Cool Trevor, I bought the version without the Gyro as they weren't available yet. Like you say it's a bit different but I think overall a great option to powerbox. The remote FOB is cool and works great. I found the setup fairly straight forward.

Look forward to the rest of your review with Gyro setup.

So scratch off the con about the adjustment steps being too course.

First setup subtrim and endpoints in the AR - this has a course adjustment.
Second use the 15-point balancer - this has a fine adjustment.

    Makes sense.

For anyone that might care about using Jeti with 900Mhz receiver back up as well......from another forum:

gary I just asked the engineers. Here is the reply

    Hey kris.
    Hows it going buddy?
Yes you can use both the 2.4 and 900 receivers. What you can do is run 2 x2.4 rxs and then connect a 900 to the back of the primary 2.4 rx.

    Re: AR Smoothflite RRS

Gyro setup... so easy to setup it is kinda worrying me, LOL

    1) Run Gyro Wizard - 2min
    2) check gyro direction and adjust - 1min
    3) stand around and scratch your head why all gyros are not this easy - 1hr

    It has 2 modes...

VCG (variable gain control) where you adjust gain with a knob or mix with GPS if you want

    OR

AGC (Automatic Gain Control). So no need to mess with gain. Instead of a GPS to increase gain as you go slower, this unit senses the start of gain flutter and backs the gain off. So theoretically it is always optimizating the highest gain for any condition.

Skeptical that AGC will work as advertised.

Will see. Eager for a bunch of flights
