    Re: AR Smoothflite RRS

Got a bunch of flights on my AJ ARS/GP123 today and tried the Smoothflite.

Not sure the science behind it, but somehow it manages to reduce gain before flutter yet increase gain when going slow!!

It has 3 modes... off, low gain, high gain. I’m running 20% low gain and up around 80% high gain. The Smoothflite automatically optimizes gain up to these maxes.

So fly all day long in high gain, switch to low gain or off for things like pop tops, etc.

Need more time on it to fine tune things and form an opinion. Looking forward to a 30-40kph seagull day!! So far so good!

Downsides so far are the following...

    1) can’t get the telemetry from Smoothflite to Jeti to work. Will ask AR for help tomorrow
    2) I wish after a flight you could see some stats on how much gain it was using on each surface.

Pacific RC Jets stock them, great guys to deal with in California

    https://pacificrcjets.com/collection...radio-products

About $400US and that’s with 26 output slots and ALL can be gyro stabilized if needed. Pretty cool 😎

Ya... the 26 stabilized channels is a bit of a stetch. There are 3 channels (ail, elev, rudd) into the box that are stabilized. Then you can add on slots to one of those channels up to a total of 26.

    For most planes this works.

Until you get into thrust vectoring. If you added a stabilized slot for vertical TV to elevator and stabilized slot for horizontal TV to rudder, you’d have stabilized TV but you could never turn the TV off because they follow the main channels.

This is where the Mercury is better. The Mercury has a dedicated TV setup option with modes that’ll lock TV or mix it and stabilize it
