30 Year ,Yellow Aircraft Spitfire build .

I just purchased my Yellow spitfire back after selling it partly completed 10 years ago . I actually purchase the plane 30 years ago from National Hobby in Toronto started the build but shortly after moved to Parry Sound where it sat for nearly 20 years . One of those planes you really regret selling and was happy to see it go back up for sale in nearly the same unfinished condition . funny when It was sold it was missing the landing gear and I forgot to give him the water slides . well I buy it back for the same price with a Taurus 52 motor and some new yellow landing gear , also came back with a full cockpit kit . I figured why not post surely one of the longest builds ever LOL .First was to repair the damage done by one of the last five owners thankfully they did not get very far with the build, actually just created more work LOL. ..

I pulled the Taurus as it was a terrible fit and had the carb hanging 2" out one side and would have needed the complete lower cowl cut off on the exhaust side ,again thank God they stopped when they did . As I've had so much luck with my last DLA 56 over the past 6 years I am putting my spare into this one , I know when you remove the L it becomes much less reliable LMAO so I am sticking with DLA ..

Repaired the glass work to the lower cowl ..

    trial fit the DLA 56.

hit the milling machine and made a manifold that will fit under the cowl .

Re: 30 Year ,Yellow Aircraft Spitfire build .

Been working on smoothing the wing and and finishing the pocket hinges , I replace the balsa trailing edge that is called for and use 1/32 " plywood . looks cleaner with a nice sharp edge and is far more durable . When doing pocket hinges be sure to have the leading edge of the aileron perfectly rounded so you can keep the air gap tight . The hinge joint should be in the center of the round on the leading edge of the aileron ,this will leave a large amount of hinge protruding from the trailing edge of the wing . To better support the hinge you can use Robart removable hinge pockets and insert them in the trailing edge . this will also make your hinges removable in the future ..
