Re: H9 PA-18 Super Cub - Scheme Change and Assembly

I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to assemble this plane with the fuse uncovered!!
Getting access to all the required tight areas would be a much different scenario if the Monokote was still on!

So while priming, painting and clearing is going on in the garage, I got the ignition temporarily installed in the fuse nose, and a cut through-hole for the leads to the cowl.

I added some Velcro to the bottom of the ply plate because access later will be difficult and I hate losing the battery straps, and Rx straps by falling out of their place!

Re: H9 PA-18 Super Cub - Scheme Change and Assembly

Well, I have been working on the prime, paint , and clear, part of the project, and the garage is a mess! LOL
Parts hanging or laid out everywhere and in different stages of paint.

The paint match from Cawthra Automotive is awesome! too bad I go thru so much! So tonight I went to Rona and they matched a quart pretty darn nicely!!!
See the code for reference if you need some. (FYI the CARQUEST code for Cub Yellow in their system is 6177A)

With a few coats all parts will match up great, but the ailerons will need some TLC in the application due to the recesses in the surface.

Re: H9 PA-18 Super Cub - Scheme Change and Assembly

I also started on the fab of the scale beacon light for the top of the rudder.

I am still looking for a better lens cover, but this is it for now. Any thoughts or ideas of where to get something that would look like the pics of the real thing?

The size of the mount is about 5/8" to 3/4". Any help would be appreciated!

Re: H9 PA-18 Super Cub - Scheme Change and Assembly

When things are drying, I have been taking advantage of the covering being off the plane and setting up what I can prior to fuse covering!

Most items are planned for space, and some placed. I need to get some 2 servo T-Bolt connectors from Jeff, and a pretty prop.
Those servos and Ibec will be behind the interior kit hat rack, and will be hidden when done.

Painting has come to a bit of a stop due to facilities..... arrgghh!

So I have had the chance to do some more covering, and the rudder is covered, and the fin has 1 side covered for now.

There are some really interesting curves in this covering and the new beacon light mount!
