H9 PA-18 Super Cub - Scheme Change and Assembly

    Hey All !!

May as well join the party with another thread!!

Steve wanted his plane to match his fathers full size Super Cub (see attached), so I am recovering, painting and assembling a NIB Hangar 9 Super Cub from the stock blue scheme to a yellow scheme.

Steve has purchased a Valley View RC 40cc twin for this bird, which should haul it around just about fine..... LOL!
And Hitec 5665 servos are being installed all around.

Besides stripping the film, the paint will be a bit tedious, there are a TON of little parts and surfaces from metal to wood to film to be painted!

I have already started the work long ago and have some pictures, but not a hell of a lot, but will get more as I progress from now on.

    Let the fun begin!!

    Scott

The Cub has flaps and functional lighting system, and there is a full interior kit to be installed. (including the pilot!)

Here is the box with the stock scheme, and the first bit of progress, the wing stripped and tail feathers being covered.

Looks like a lot of work. Should look fantastic when you're done!

Was the Ultracote hard to strip off Scott?

Yes, it will be a bunch of work, the covering shouldn't be too bad, but the painting and interior will be a majority of the work.
    Lots of fun tho!!

The film wasn't too bad really, except if the clear backing separates from the colored adhesive. Then its a bunch of alcohol and Q-tips to make it of easier to remove. That didn't happen too often thankfully!

Well, I have almost finished sanding the white parts in Prep for the yellow paint.
I have some black and brown done already, but there are a TON of parts to become yellow!!!

see attached, anything white must be painted.......

Parts are starting to come off of the paint production line and so far they are mint!!

The landing light cover needed another coat from the pic.

Lots still to go tho! And the cowl will be a lot of sanding before paint.
