Re: Your 1st RC Plane / Where is it now?

My first "RC" plane would have been the cox P-19 control line, which you could order from the Sears "wish book" catalog. My Cousin also got one, but since he wasn't interested enough to get the necessary items to fly it, I was able to trade something to get his too. I flew them until they were too broken to fly anymore, so they are long gone. I remember doing a tare down of the 049 engine showing all the parts for a class demonstration, must have been grade 4 or 5.

After that it was only static models for me, got 2nd place in a local shop contest with a p-40. I wish my Mom didn't through them all out after I left home

7 years ago while in Saskatoon my uncle who's been involved with the club there for decades asked if I wanted to go flying....sure!
I guess that would have been my first real RC flight. Botched the landing a bit, but otherwise went well. That was when electric was just becoming popular, but I didn't go "check out the LHS" because I didn't think I lived in a good place to get into the hobby, & I had many other things keeping me busy.

This month marks 3 years since I brought home a little coax heli from "The Source"....& the bug hit me hard! Although I really liked the heli's the foam electric planes were cheap, so I got going on those. I bought a SIM & a micro Corsair. I also got the UMX Mosquito which flew much better than the little Corsair, so that's what I really got started with, & I still have it.

So 3 years & over $25G later here I am with a full fleet of heli's & good selection of planes, including a 30cc gas & new 50cc waiting on an engine.

So after building my confidence on the SIM & my little Mosquito, I flew all my "bigger" plane for the first time on the same day! lol It was one of my best days. The little Wildcat became my go-to plane for a while, & it hangs above my hobby desk. The Cessna I sold, & the Corsair (my favorite warbird) unfortunately went in hard last year when the cheap elevator servo went bad.

Good flight video of Cessna buddy with a couple of lacks but its good! My first one was a Cessna 182 from the HobbyWorx you can check it out here http://www.thehobbyworx.com/rc-plane...rtf-24ghz.html This was the first trainer i got and upgrade my hobby experience with that. It's capable of slow, stable inverted flight. This RC plane is a good choice for a beginner or mid level pilots. Its given me a lot of joy and always been great fun and I love the design of the plane looks amazing.

Thanks Dwayne, ya their pretty good starter planes, accept for the landing gear. The front wheel bends really easy (if it doesn't fall off lol) I prefer a tail dragger over the tricycle gear. Was going to put floats on it, but bought a flyzone Beaver & sold the cessna.

Re: Your 1st RC Plane / Where is it now?

My first plane was a Zagi flying wing. 4 foot wing span with a speed 400 direct drive pusher motor. It used an 8 cell AA battery pack. I learned to fly with it but I beat it like a rented mule. I still have it in the basement.
When I joined the Local R/C club I got a 60 size Tower Hobbies Trainer. I soloed with it and eventually put it on floats. It flew a couple years on floats then I put the wheels back on and gave it to a lady who was training. She eventually stuffed it into the ground. Not sure why it happened but heard that it lost the wing in flight.
this pic is from an old camera phone with a low pixel count so it is what it is.

Where are you located? I have a Great Planes Cessna 182 that has the same problem with the bending front landing gear. I replaced it with a dual strut gear and it's much better. It costs way too much to ship the one piece wing but if you are close to Windsor, maybe we can work something out.
It shows some wear and tear. Been flown quite a bit but still a nice looking plane.

Re: Your 1st RC Plane / Where is it now?

My first POWERED plane was a Sig Kadet MKII with a K&B .40. I toned down the control throws to give no more than 1/4" throw, balanced it and took it to the club field. We were all just learning back then and I had only flown a glider to that point. The club President was flying an C.G. Eagle II and I talked him into test flying it for me. He took it off and immediately panicked "I don't have it! I don't have it!" and handed it back to me. So I flew a couple of circuits with knees knocking together and then the engine quit. Well that was such a relief when that noisy engine stopped that I just totally relaxed, glided it around a bit and greased it in for a landing just like my glider.

In talking to him after the problem he had was the controls were set up so mild that he thought he had no control. He was used to flying on the center 5% of the stick throw!

Re: Your 1st RC Plane / Where is it now?

Around 1968-70 built a Goldberg Falcon 56, still have the wing, and tail assy, Fuse came apart oil soaked and I think I hit the ground a little hard.
Next was a Midwest Lil Stik, still have it, fly well. Stored since 1970, fly twice last year and aileron hinge broke(old age should have known to replace.
Built new Fuse, ready to go, Being flying Flitetest DTR's after being away for 25 years. Eye sight and reflexes not the same anymore, have to stay with slow stuff for now.
